Job Description

Background Information:

This is an exciting opportunity to create strategic communications and provide support to Denver Public Library’s Spanish speaking customers.  The successful candidate will have fluency in written and spoken Spanish in order to assist in promoting and publicizing DPL’s services, programs and activities. This position serves as the Spanish language information source to the public and the media through written materials, web content and in-person visits.

What You’ll Do:

Work in the Community Relations Office at the downtown Central Library as an integral part of the marketing and public relations team.  Translate external communications into Spanish to publicize events and strengthen support for the Library. Work collaboratively with other DPL departments and locations to raise awareness of DPL activities, programs, events and services to Spanish speakers. Assist in providing Spanish language messages to Spanish broadcast and print media. Incorporate technology and social media in implementing communication plans. Support outreach efforts to populations with Spanish speakers as needed. Serve as the primary lead in creating content for DPL’s Spanish website, Spanish e-newsletter, and Spanish Facebook page.

You Have:

Knowledge of communication and dissemination techniques including social media. Skill in the practice of effective Spanish language communications, both orally and in writing. Skill in checking information for accuracy and completeness and correcting errors. Skill in expressing ideas and facts to individuals or groups effectively. Ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines. Ability to work with a diverse group of people. Ability to model a positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity and a sense of humor. Ability to creatively solve problems, negotiate and handle stressful situations in a positive manner. Ability to create and maintain positive staff relationships. Ability to communicate effectively with both individuals and groups. Ability to multi-task and prioritize. Ability to demonstrate innovation and flexibility. Ability to develop the Library’s mission, values and vision into an action plan for Community Relations.  Ability to use extensive workplace and other technology including email, internet, social media and other software.  Ability to pass a background check after the offer to hire has been made.

Fluency in written and spoken Spanish.

Two years of experience performing Spanish language translation, outreach or marketing.

Bachelor's degree in Spanish, marketing, communications or a related field.

We Provide:

$19.83 to $25.77 per hour starting salary range, $19.83 to $31.72 per hour full salary range.  Although the full salary range for this position is provided, offers are typically made within the starting salary range and depend on qualifications.  The City and County of Denver benefit package will be offered.

Regular, full-time, 40 hours per week.  The schedule will be determined by the needs of the department and may include evening and weekend hours.
