Job Description

The Whatcom County Library System (WCLS) seeks a dynamic, personable and innovative Deputy Director to provide strategic leadership in planning, organizing, managing and directing the operation, services and activities of the WCLS branch libraries, outreach and mobile services to meet the WCLS mission, goals and objectives. Requires MLS, seven or more years’ relevant library experience and a Washington State Librarian Certificate (or ability to acquire Certificate). You are a skilled leader and manager with a strong understanding of the full range of public library services and a passionate commitment to providing the best possible patron experience.  You have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and a proven track record of motivating and developing staff and building rapport at all levels of the organization. You have the ability to analyze situations, handle the details without losing sight of the big picture, and make solid decisions. Requires the ability to speak, understand, and write English clearly and concisely.  Requires a Master’s degree in Library Science, seven or more years’ recent, progressively responsible, and professional library management experience in public services, and a Washington State Librarian Certificate (or ability to acquire Certificate); public library experience and multiple site management experience is preferred.  Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities will be considered. New employees are subject to a CRC (criminal records check) per RCW 43.43.832.
