Job Description

DEFINITION: Under the general supervision of the Library Director or a Librarian II, this position will administer the Library’s marketing strategies through the production of web site content, written, and visual advertising materials. These include the use of social media and other online content.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES: Support the library’s marketing activities in print, video and online. Demonstrate strong writing skills. Materials produced include articles, announcements, brochures, flyers, feature stories, press releases and online content. Participate in the development of the library’s marketing strategy. Implement tactics to support marketing goals. Conduct research into a variety of marketing issues individually or as part of a project team. Create new web site content. Manage library web pages to ensure timeliness and accuracy. Update library web pages. Make the best use of newer technology that ensures functionality, simplicity, customer appeal and ease of use. Create interesting images and web content that clearly explain library services. Monitor site access patterns and make modifications as necessary to improve usability. Develop eye-catching and creative marketing materials that are effective in communicating with the public. Produce the department’s social media content in coordination with Adult Services and Children and Teen Services departments. Monitor social media postings to identify and/or respond to items that need a response. Provide original photography and photo editing as needed. Act as departmental resource for the production of dynamic, informative videos to educate the public about library resources and services. Design content and script of programs. Manage production, or contract of production, and distribution of final materials. Facilitate the development of graphic artwork for projects including logos, brochures, flyers, reports and posters. Coordinate with third-party vendors and manage contracts to ensure production of marketing materials in time to meet goals. Manage the distribution of collateral materials to appropriate audiences. Represent the department and/or City in interdepartmental, inter-agency, community, and professional meetings as required. Perform other duties as assigned.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Work is generally performed in standard library environment that includes exposure to dust. Frequent use of technical office equipment including personal computer, document preparation equipment, telephone, and fax machines. May involve the ability to move 15-20 pounds, mobility through diverse work environments, and frequent exposure to stress associated with varied, complex tasks. May be required to work long or non-traditional hours to fulfill organizational needs, projects, or special circumstances. Local travel within the City of Longmont is occasionally required

Additional Info & Requirements

Selection process will include complete job description review, personal interview, background investigation, criminal background check, and substance screening. 

Two to three years of experience working in web design or media production. Special qualifications: Creative writing skills, web design and multimedia experience, knowledge of web programming languages (HTML) and graphic design software, and possession of a valid Colorado Driver’s License.
