Job Description

It is the mission of the Pikes Peak Library District to seek, engage, and transform lives through library services and resources that enrich individual lives and build community. This position operates in a diverse environment to help fulfill the mission of the Library by supervising the daily operations of Mobile Library Services.  This position oversees the library services and materials provided to the community served by Mobile Libraries including information services, reader’s advisory services, circulation, and programming.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Provides excellent customer service and maintains a courteous, positive image of the library when interacting with patrons and staff
  2. Maintains confidentiality in all patron and staff interactions
  3. Manages and assigns daily workflow; assigns bi-weekly work schedules (schedules subs, when needed)
  4. Participates in the interviewing, selection, hiring process, and training for new staff
  5. Supervises, coaches, trains, and evaluates Mobile Library Services staff, subs, and volunteers
  6. Verifies and approves timesheets; maintains employee records
  7. Compiles and reports monthly statistics; prepares and monitors budgets (authorizes petty cash purchase orders and reports cash receipts)
  8. Provides information services, reader’s advisory services, circulation and programming for patrons of the Mobile Libraries; contributes to evaluation and management of collection
  9. Actively promotes and represents Mobile Library Services through programming and outreach within the community
  10. Makes recommendations regarding vehicle maintenance, security, IT, and operational functions
  11. Initiates appropriate procedures in the event of an emergency; evaluates road conditions and decides on the advisability of meeting stops with the Associate Director, Public Services
  12. Maintains mandatory DOT records; schedules DOT required trainings
  13. Evaluates all mobile library stops; makes adjustments to the stop schedule, as needed; prepares the three seasonal stop schedules; initiates and maintains contacts for stops (including arranging for the parking of the mobile library vehicles)
  14. Drives all Mobile Library vehicles
  15. Performs daily safety inspections; adheres to Vehicle Operation Safety procedures; maintains statistics for reporting
  16. Performs other related duties as assigned

Knowledge of advanced library services, practices, and procedures. Ability to represent the library district with tact and courtesy and provide a positive image in attitude, appearance and performance of duties.  Ability to exhibit sound professional judgment and demeanor in all public interactions. Ability to think and act appropriately under pressure. Ability to supervise staff and provide leadership, guidance, and direction.  Ability to select and develop staff through recruiting, training, coaching, and evaluating performance on a regular basis.  Ability to plan, organize, and execute assigned projects.  Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.  Ability to work as an effective team member, have a "whatever it takes" work ethic, and have  an excellent customer service attitude.  Ability to drive all Mobile Library vehicle

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 Requires a BA or BS degree from a four year liberal arts college or university.

     Prefer candidates with a Master’s Degree in Library Science (MLS or MLIS)  

 Requires a minimum of 3 years of library or other public service work experience

     Prefer candidates with supervisory experience

Excellent communication skills, demonstrate a "whatever it takes" work ethic, and has an

excellent customer service attitude. Bilingual ability is a plus in serving our diverse community

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

1 Requires a valid Colorado driver’s license or the ability to obtain one

2 Requires a safe driving record

3 Requires candidate to provide proof of current automobile insurance

4 Requires incumbent to undergo and pass a physical examination in accordance with DOT

regulations and receive a 2-year certification.  Recertification will be required on an on-going basis.

5 Incumbent agrees to submit to a drug test in the event of an accident (any accident, not just motor vehicle related)

6. Must pass the background check conducted by Schriever AFB, in order to be issued a DBIDs

(Defense Biometric Identification Data System) card for access to the base.
