Job Description

The Jefferson County Library Foundation's mission is to support and enrich the capabilities, resources and services of the Jefferson County Public Library through fundraising and advocacy efforts that benefit our diverse community. The Foundation was founded in 1988 and is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Through its partnership with Jefferson County Public Library, the Foundation raises and manages funds to support Library programs and services.

The executive director is charged with leading the transformation of the Jefferson County Library Foundation into a dynamic, thriving organization that plays a critical role in the success of the Jefferson County Public Library as the essential destination where all generations connect, discover and create. The principal assignment of the executive director is developing and leading a robust and sustainable fundraising organization. Additional duties and responsibilities include visioning and strategic planning, library advocacy, community engagement, and administrative management of the office and staff of the Foundation. The executive director serves as the liaison between the Library’s Senior Management Team and the Foundation.

The executive director operates under limited supervision and is hired by and reports to the Foundation Board of Directors. As needed, this position is directed by the chair of the Foundation and Executive Council on behalf of the Foundation Board.

 Key Areas of Focus for the Executive Director:

The present effort and commitment of the Foundation, and therefore, the immediate priorities of the new executive director are:

· Provide leadership as the change agent for both strategic and tactical improvement initiatives

· Increase financial contributions to the Foundation to support the work of the Library

· Build an extensive and profitable donor base of corporate, private and individual supporters

· Create an advocacy network of Foundation and Library supporters

· Increase the visibility of the Foundation and the Friends groups

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Fund Development
· Develop and implement the Foundation’s comprehensive short-and long-term fundraising strategies, including fundraising; campaigns and events; provide leadership and direction for book sales, corporate and foundation memberships; sponsorships; donor gift solicitation; grant solicitation; endowments; planned giving; and naming opportunities with consent of Jefferson County Public Library’s Board of Trustees

· Cultivate and maintain corporate sponsorship and donor support prospects, including donor interests, support capacity, support history, and preferred communication and contact styles

· Arrange program and activity opportunities to keep donors interested, engaged and involved with the Foundation and the Library

· Evaluate and report on all fundraising activities and solicitation programs to the Board or appropriate committee


Strategic Planning and Visioning
· Assist the Foundation Board of Directors in its strategic visioning and planning to meet the short-and long-term goals, objectives and mission of the Foundation

· Implement the strategic plan

· Keep the Board of Directors fully informed on the work and events of the Foundation

· Support the work of the Board of Directors and its committees

· Assist in the recruitment, orientation and development of Board members


Personnel, Financial and Administrative Management
· Proactively recruit, train, assign, supervise and evaluate staff and volunteers, adhering to clearly defined policies, procedures, work assignments and goals

· Create a structured process for maintaining a volunteer program providing orientation, training and specific job descriptions for all volunteer positions

· Administer a procurement program for vendors and contractors who will provide services to the Foundation and on its behalf

· Encourage and promote the professional growth and development of the Foundation staff

· Work with the Finance Committee in developing, implementing and monitoring sound financial strategies and budgets

· Ensure the accurate and timely maintenance of legal, financial and insurance records and documents

· Work with the Finance Committee to ensure effective asset management

· Maintain official records, documents and filings to comply with federal, state and local regulations

· Ensure management and administration of financial transactions, gifts and grants

· Oversee the funding support and disbursement of grants and gifts to the library


Public Relations, Marketing and Advocacy
· Spokesperson for the Jefferson County Library Foundation

· Engage and advocate for and on behalf of the Foundation and the Library to the general public, other public agencies, county and state leaders

· Maintain visibility among business, philanthropic and civic organizations to form mutually beneficial partnerships to build support and leadership for the Foundation and the Library

· Promote and maintain a positive working relationship with the leadership and management of the Jefferson County Public Library

· Promote and maintain a positive working relationship with the Friends of the Library

· Oversees all communications and updates of print, electronic and web-based sources relating to the Foundation

· Respond to public comments and requests



Additional Info & Requirements

PLEASE NOTE: The Jefferson County Library Foundation is a separate entity from Jefferson County Government and Jefferson County Public Library. As such, the Foundation is governed by a twelve member Board of Directors and establishes it's own policies, procedures, compensation, benefits, salary structure, etc.
Benefits provided with this positon include:

* Vacation ranging from 10-160 hours per year (depending on length of service)
