Job Description

Nature of Work: This position is located in the Cataloging and Metatdata Services Department of the University Libraries and functions as the Head of Copy Cataloging. The incumbent will supervise the Copy Cataloging Unit; assign ongoing and project work; set unit priorities, workflow, and division of tasks; design and implement copy cataloging procedures in accordance with Departmental policies and the Monographic Cataloging Team’s procedures; develop training materials for all copy cataloging for the Monographic Cataloging Team, including training for the changes in cataloging software; hire and evaluate personnel; coordinate the unit’s work with other units in the Department and with other departments in the libraries; solve cataloging problems; perform some original and complex copy cataloging in a variety of formats.

Minimum Requirements: Four years of general library experience involving typing, ordering, preparing, shelving, and maintaining library materials including two years of technical library experience involving cataloging using MARC formats, AACR2 and Library of Congress (LC) Rule Interpretations, LC Classification, and LC Subject headings as well as cataloging on OCLC and in an integrated library system. Highly Desirable: The ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of Innovative Interfaces Millenium, OCLC Connexion software as well as supervisory experience. Substitution: Two years of course work from an accredited college or university including twelve semester hours of library science course work may substitute for two years of the general library experience.
