Job Description

The Arapahoe Library District is looking for a Librarian to join the expert team of Information Service and Intercultural librarians in our progressive library system. The ideal candidate will have a track record of success and a passion to run with the best, assisting patrons with advanced advisory and search needs in all areas, identifying beta/cutting edge technologies and developing innovative services for our patrons. Position: 40 hour, full-time; exempt.  

Pay Rate: $40,400.00 - $50,520.00 annually

 

Role: Assists patrons with advanced search and advisory needs and develops library services.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

60% ADVANCED SEARCH AND ADVISORY ASSISTANCE – Satisfies patron requests of an advanced nature by conducting patron interviews, employing search strategies, providing advanced reference and advisory services, mentoring staff, and recommending resources.

40% SERVICE DEVELOPMENT - Identifying, evaluating, recommending and implementing services, including but not limited to: technology services, advisory services, community outreach, and creating web content.

Expectations:

  1. CUSTOMER RELATIONS – Outstanding and personalized internal and external customer service.
  2. ADVANCED SEARCH AND ADVISORY ASSISTANCE – Effective assistance for patrons with advanced search needs.
  3. SERVICE DEVELOPMENT – Effective development of services.


Qualifications:
Two to five years of similar or related experience, required.

MLS or MLIS degree, required.

Ability to work varying shifts, including evenings and weekends, required.

Advanced technology skills for Windows, Word, Excel, Internet Explorer and Outlook, required.

Intermediate skills in Sierra, preferred.

Ability to be mobile 100% of the time and sit as needed; ability to bend, stoop, reach, and push a loaded wheeled book truck weighing up to 100 pounds, 10% of the time, required.

Experience with developing and conducting instructional programs and services.

Ability to focus on the customer, show integrity, be inclusive, enjoy learning and
have fun.

Ability to exercise confidence and excitement in the vast technological and online resources the Library District has available.

Ability to successfully work with varying demographics, required.

Passionate about the mission of public libraries.

Comfortable with the principles of intellectual freedom.

The Community

Established in 1966, the Arapahoe Library District serves more than 200,000 residents living in Arapahoe County. Arapahoe County and other major suburban counties make up the greater metropolitan area surrounding Denver, Colorado. The Arapahoe Library District operates eight branch libraries, including mobile library services, and a library at the County Detention Center, funded by the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Department. A seven-member Board of Trustees sets the library budget and determines policy.
