Job Description

Are some of your favorite people spending their days in middle school or high school?  Do your interests include gaming, tech toys, and young adult fiction?  Would you describe yourself as creative, highly energetic, and an excellent communicator?  We're looking for you!

Under the general direction of the Public Services Manager, you will provide timely reference services; excellent reader's advisory and library instruction; innovative and creative programs; effective collection development; and performs limited circulation duties for teens, their families and others using teen resources, both inside the library as well as in schools and the community. Perform other work as required.  Schedule is Monday - Thursday from 11:30 am - 8:00 pm and rotating weekend hours.

Hiring Range: $45,281 - $52,083 DOQ.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  • Organize, coordinate and present events, program, and instruction to teens and their parents/guardians, including STEM and maker programs; lead computer coding workshops; facilitate gaming, including board games, role-playing games and online gaming; coordinate literature-based discussion and writing groups; mentor teens in City and Library teen advisory groups.
  • Provide individual assistance in the usage of library-supported technologies and resources, including individual and group instruction in using new and emerging devices and digital resources.  Create tutorial videos for teens and their care-givers to use for remote instruction. Assist teens and their families to locate the information and resources that meet their needs.
  • Promote library services and programs for teens in area schools and community organizations.
  • Review and recommend general reading and reference resources in a variety of formats, including print, audiovisual and electronic, in both the teen and adult library collections.
  • Manage and monitor collections to ensure they are current, accurate, and relevant.  Manage appropriate portions of the acquisitions budget.
  • Create engaging visual displays for Teen Services Division.
  • Assume responsibility for department when working alone. Assist at Children's Services and Adult Services desks as needed.
  • Assist with development of grant proposals.

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Required: ALA-accredited Master's Degree in Library Science or Information Science.

Preferred: One year's experience as a professional librarian in a municipal, public, or school library, with strong teen service expertise.  Experience with STEM programs and applications a huge plus!

  • Special License: Must have valid Colorado Driver's License with good driving record for last 3 years.
