Job Description

Seeking an energetic, enthusiastic and service-oriented professional to lead the Adult Services and Teen Services staff at Library 21c.  You will provide the leadership and supervision for the lower floor activities for adults and teen center.  You will assist with the programming and educational offerings for Adults (ranging from adults, seniors, to local entrepreneurs, home business owners, innovators, creative individuals of all ages). This exempt, full-time position will supervise and direct a collaborative team committed to achieving the mission of the Pikes Peak Library District: to seek, engage and transform lives through library services and resources that enrich individual lives and build community.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Actively promotes the library’s services through programming and outreach within the community.
  • Provides excellent customer service and maintains a courteous positive image of the library when interacting with patrons and staff.
  • Manages the Teen/Adult Services, including Maintains patron and staff confidentiality
    • Develops operating procedures and staff schedules
    • Prepares, monitors and approves budgets
    • Advocates needs to other departments
    • Reviews workload statistics and recommends staffing allocations
    • Prepares monthly public service activity/accomplishment reports
    • Develops long and short-range plans of service based upon the Library District and Public Service Department goals and initiatives.
    • Communicates with the Creative Computer Commons Manager to meet site goals; supports C3 initiatives.
  • Interviews and selects new staff, develops performance improvement plans, supervises, provide coaching as needed, and terminates staff as necessary. 
  • Provides leadership, guidance, direction, and development and training assistance to staff.
  • Represents the library as a member of professional organizations and associations
  • Attends and contributes to Public Service Department meetings.
  • May lead PPLD initiatives; grants or programs and serve on one or more district teams.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Additional Info & Requirements

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Master’s Degree in Library Science (MLS) or a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) required
  • Two plus years of professional library experience with supervisory responsibility preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of library services, best practices and procedures
  • Ability to cultivate a team environment that encourages personnel to work across departments
  • Excellent communication skills, demonstrates a “whatever-it-takes” work ethic, and models an excellent customer service attitude
  • Bilingual ability is a plus in serving our diverse community
