Job Description

Oregon State University Libraries & Press (OSULP) invites applications for the position of Assessment Librarian, a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, tenure track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level.  The successful candidate will work to improve Oregon State University Libraries & Press (OSULP) services and programs, with particular emphasis on the student experience, through the gathering and interpretation of a broad range of data to guide decision-making at the departmental and administrative level. The incumbent collaborates with library administration and library departments in alignment with the OSULP Strategic Plan to design and conduct assessment projects to demonstrate library impact, improve services and inform decision-making.

We seek a colleague interested in building on existing efforts and in developing and implementing new programs and initiatives to support assessment projects initiated across the library. Applying strong communication and teamwork skills, the Assessment Librarian will promote the integration of assessment into all phases of planning and services. He or she will work both independently and collaboratively with library colleagues to develop OSULP’s assessment program.

Responsibilities

  • Provides guidance to assess library services and programs by developing and implementing assessment models and tools that can be adopted. Works with colleagues to develop effective evaluation and assessment of new services and resources to enhance students’ experience with OSULP services and learning spaces.
  • Uses quantitative and qualitative methods to measure the effectiveness of the library in meeting the teaching, learning, and research needs of its users
  • Collaborates with assessment professionals across the OSU campus, with OSULP consortia and other collaborative initiatives related to assessment.
  • Develops, maintains, and archives reports, datasets, statistical analyses and accompanying documentation of assessment efforts and develops and maintains system(s) for collecting data required for national and regional reporting
  • Writes annual assessment reports in conjunction with the University Librarian, AULs, and the Library Administration, Management and Planning group (LAMP)
  • Serves as a primary contact to develop partnerships and identify collaborative innovative research and teaching projects with an OSU college or program

This is a tenure-track position. The successful candidate actively participates in research, contributes to the university’s teaching mission, and engages in professional service.

Additional Info & Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • A Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program or a foreign equivalent degree
  • An undergraduate or master’s degree in the social sciences
  • Experience designing assessment projects, defining research questions, documenting and analyzing data and providing recommendations for improvement
  • Experience conducting analysis and creating customized reports using data analysis or statistical software applications (such as Excel, SPSS, Nvivo, Atlas or R)
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as well as independently
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduate level coursework in research design and assessment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of a wide range of research methodologies applicable to library assessment with a focus on quantitative methodologies
  • Ability to effectively present assessment data to audiences with varying levels of statistical knowledge
  • Flexibility and willingness to assume a variety of assignments
  • Ability to work effectively in an environment of change
