Job Description

What You'd Do:

Work in cooperation with the Library’s Executive Team to set strategic direction for the Library. Develop strategies for moving the Library forward in partnership with other key staff.  Analyze data and community information to help prioritize, focus resources and develop future strategic plans. Create a work environment that encourages high performance, collaboration, innovation and customer service. Collaborate and communicate with a wide variety of Library staff, the Library Commission, the Friends Foundation, other City and County of Denver agencies and community leaders. Oversee the following departments with an inspirational, forward-looking vision that encourages innovation and best practices:  Collection Services (selects, acquires, processes and catalogs materials); Information Technology(provides and improves information technology for staff and customers); Digital User Experience (creates and improves the digital user experience) and Community Technology Center and ideaLAB (provide extensive technology access and training at the Central Library). Guide strategic planning, policy development, budget formulation and analysis for the division. Work collaboratively with division managers to identify collections and technology needs and solutions and establish project plans, budgets and timelines.

Ability to pass a background check after the offer to hire has been made.

Five years experience working in libraries at a managerial or higher level, including three years of supervisory experience. Experience coaching and leading individuals and teams. Experience with successful evaluation, measurement and accountability practices.  Experience managing sizeable budgets.  Experience with a wide variety of technologies.  Experience with project planning, implementation and management. Experience with strategic planning and developing strategic frameworks.  

Understanding of or demonstrated interest in and willingness to learn design thinking, prototyping and innovation principles and practices.

Demonstrated interest in business and cultural trends.

Familiarity with library technology systems and networks, security and infrastructure, collection development and technical services.  

A Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited institution. 

A degree or experience in Information Technology (preferred, not required).

We have an opportunity for a strong and energetic leader to join the Library’s Executive Team to provide vision and guidance to the Library’s Collections and Technology teams as well as work collaboratively with other Executive Team members on envisioning and implementing strategies to ensure the Library is meeting the needs of the Denver community. Strategies being explored include participation in the Digital Public Library of America, expansion of services to transit-oriented development sites and burgeoning neighborhoods, and development of a Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) service plan. This position is the Executive Sponsor for several strategic initiatives including Technology Access and Training, STEM, Mobile Apps and Virtual Services, E-Commerce, Collection and Circulation Standardization and LibHub. 

Although the full salary range for this position is provided, offers are typically made within the starting salary range and depend on qualifications.  The City and County of Denver benefit package will be offered.
