Job Description

Seeking a friendly, outgoing, business-oriented professional to join the Creative Computer Commons department at the Library 21c. This is an exciting opportunity to leverage your passion for programming while helping people find information and community resources focused on business and entrepreneurship. This position operates in a diverse environment to help fulfill PPLD’s mission by providing programming, training, and community outreach. This position uses comprehensive knowledge of electronic databases, current technologies, and community resources.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Works on the public service desks providing reference service to walk-ins, over the phone, via email, and instant messaging
  • Assists and instructs patrons through material and online searches, computer software applications, reference/in-depth research, community referrals, and outside sources/collections
  • Maintains confidentiality in all patron and staff interactions
  • Promotes library services through tours, outreach, demonstrations, talks, and displays
  • Uses computers, printers, software, and other business machines
  • Maintains knowledge of business databases, with a focus on entrepreneurship, to keep library instruction on pace with emerging trends
  • Identifies patron needs in regards to business and entrepreneurship, and develops strategies to meet those needs
  • Teaches business database classes for the public, provides business-related programming, like LinkedIn and programs highlighting the entrepreneurial connection with the makerspaces, and engages outside instructors
  • Works with patrons in the makerspaces on a variety of machinery
  • Engages in effective teamwork to achieve system-wide goals through positive collaboration
  • Serves as the “person in charge” in the absence of the C3 Manager
  • Must have flexibility to change direction/priorities based on community need
  • Coordinates efforts with applicable departments and other staff in Library 21c and the District
  • Provides input on policy as needed

Additional Info & Requirements

  • Prefer a candidate with a minimum of one year of MLS experience working SIRSI experience is a plus! 
  • Knowledge of new developments and trends in public libraries and business along with an aptitude and interest in emerging technology.
  • Proficiency on computer applications including Microsoft Office and internet skills
  • Excellent communication skills, demonstrates a “whatever-it-takes” work ethic, is a team-player, who models an excellent customer service attitude.
  • Bilingual ability is a plus.
