Job Description

Do you love to interact with pre-teens, teens and young adults? Are you creative, techy and energetic? Do you have a passion for developing fun and engaging programming for teens? Our Teen Services Librarian has the skills and enthusiasm to encourage teens to develop their love of reading and to become confident, discerning researchers and creative thinkers. We have an opening for a Teen Services Librarian at the newly remodeled Golden Library opening in June and are looking for a librarian passionate about library services.

Golden’s Teen Librarian is a location-based leader in Teen services, mentor to other staff in Teen services, creates innovative Teen programs, conducts local outreach, and, as one of the three location librarians, answers the most complicated reference questions. As part of the Golden staff the Teen Librarian provides exceptional proactive customer service, delivers reader’s advisory assistance for all ages, promotes the collection through merchandising and display, and handles patrons’ accounts, among other responsibilities.

The librarian is responsible for creating a positive, inviting atmosphere for all patrons, with special emphasis on teens. The librarian will provide access to resources, including physical and digital while performing moderately complex to complex research activities. The librarian will provide holistic and proactive customer service to all patrons in the community. The librarian will also acquire an intimate knowledge of the community, its resources and interests while staying abreast of national trends across the country. This position requires an ability to troubleshoot a variety of technical questions ranging from eReaders to app usage.

The librarian must have a passion for working with youth. The librarian will develop and present unique programs of interest to teens, including teen advisory board, storytimes, classes, and workshops. The librarian will perform community and school outreach, both in person and via social media. The librarian will have a strong knowledge of teen literature, graphic novels, be adept at performing readers’ advisory for teen library patrons and act as expert for staff in these areas.

Position must comply with laws governing patron privacy and confidentiality under CRS24-90-119, and the Code of Ethics of the American Library Association, as well as ADA governing public access to space and technology. Reports to Public Services Supervisor, Coordinator SR, or Manager.

Additional Info & Requirements

Must have a valid driver's license, if you are from out of state, you must have a valid Colorado driver's license within 30 days of hire date.

Offer of employment contingent on criminal history, MVR check and education verification.

Will be required to work some evenings, alternating weekends and minor holidays.
