Job Description

Seeking a friendly, innovative librarian who has wonderful customer service skills and a passion for programming and technology in public libraries. Will help plan and implement programs at the Penrose (downtown) library of the Pikes Peak Library District. Will also work with adaptive technology.  Must be current on technology and services offered by public libraries.  Will assist with planning and implement technology services district-wide.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Works public desks 20+ hours/week providing reference services to walk-ins, over the phone, via email and instant messaging.

  • Assists and instructs patrons through material and on-line searches, computer software applications, reference/in-depth research, community referrals, and outside sources/collections.
  • Provides reader’s advisory services.
  • Maintains confidentiality in all patron and staff interactions.
  • Promotes library services through tours, demonstrations, talks, and displays.
  • Teaches computer classes to patrons including seniors in the libraries and outside the facilities. Coordinates the computer class offerings at Penrose library and compiles a monthly calendar for patrons.
  • Participates in many outreach opportunities.
  • Researches new technologies and offers training to staff.
  • Coordinates the ADA workstations at the Penrose Library, including training other staff.
  • Member of Adaptive Technology Workgroup
  • Plans and implements programs for adults at Penrose Library
  • Serves as the “person in charge” in the absence of the Adult Services Manager.
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

Additional Info & Requirements

  • Requires a minimum of one year of library or other public service work experience; prefer two plus  years of experience working in a library
  • Advanced knowledge of library practices, procedures and materials
  • Ability to research and gather information on trends and resources in the library field
  • Proficiency on computer applications and databases, including Microsoft Office software.
  • Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to listen to others, and effectively interact with others.
  • Works collaboratively, is open to the ideas of others and builds trust throughout the organization.
  • Practices teamwork, flexibility, and demonstrates a “whatever it takes” work ethic, and has an excellent customer service attitude.
  • Bilingual ability is a plus in serving our diverse patrons.
