Job Description

The University of Colorado Boulder Libraries is looking for candidates with cataloging and supervisory experience to manage the copy cataloging team. This position will also design and implement procedures and solve cataloging problems. We invite you to read the posting below and if you are interested and qualified, we encourage you to apply!

What your key responsibilities will be:
The Copy Cataloging Manager will:
• Manages the copy cataloging team; sets team priorities, workflow, and division of tasks; assigns ongoing and project work;
• Designs and implements copy cataloging procedures in accordance with the policies of the department and procedures of the Monographic and Special Materials Cataloging Unit;
• Develops training materials for all copy cataloging for the Monographic and Special Materials Cataloging Unit, including training for the changes in cataloging software (OCLC’s Connexion and Innovative Interfaces’ Sierra software);
• Hires and evaluates personnel;
• Coordinates the team’s work with other teams in the department and with other departments in the Libraries;
• Solves cataloging problems and performs original and complex copy cataloging in a variety of formats.

Minimum Qualifications
What we require:
• Bachelor’s degree or higher
• Two years of original cataloging experience, using MARC formats, RDA/AACR2 and Library of Congress-Program for Cooperative Cataloging policy statements, LC Classification, and LC Subject Headings
• Experience cataloging on OCLC and in an integrated library system
• Two years of supervisory experience

What we’d like you to have:
• Familiarity/Knowledge of at least one non-English language
• Comprehensive knowledge of cataloging standards
• Experience cataloging multiple formats of materials
• Knowledge of Innovative Interfaces Sierra and OCLC Connexion software
• Experience creating authority records
• Experience supervising the work of cataloging staff

Preferred qualifications may be used to further reduce the pool of applicants to those who are most highly qualified.

The Monographic and Special Materials Cataloging Unit supports the mission of the Metadata Services Department by providing intellectual access to information resources, chiefly in the form of printed books, video recordings, microforms, archival collections, and some maps. Materials cataloged are for the general collections in most disciplines, Special Collections, Archives, and Government Information.
