Job Description
Valor is a private, non-profit Christian ministry providing a secondary education that emphasizes academic, athletic and artistic excellence and the development of a strong foundation in Biblical principles and values. Our faculty members, administrative and executive staff are expected to approach their work as a ministry of delivering a spiritually fortified educational program to students and parents.
Valor is seeking a full time Faculty Librarian to create an environment and culture for learning through proficient subject knowledge, curriculum planning, preparation and instruction to faculty, students and the Valor community. Maintain the library collection and effectively plan for growth, development and acquisition in support of excellence in academics. Candidates should have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree; however a Master’s degree in subject matter is preferred. High School teaching experience preferred.
Essential Job Functions:
- Live out and model an authentic relationship with Jesus Christ
- Participate in curriculum development process to promote and ensure a full range of literacy and research skills
- Lead and collaborate with teachers in creating engaging learning experiences that incorporate multiple literacies, foster critical thinking, and augment classroom instruction
- Demonstrate competence with modern library technology use, including OCLC
- Troubleshoot and work with IT and Facilities department regarding repairs, needs and events
- Exhibit knowledge about current and classic literature of all genres. Work with groups and individuals to promote reading for pleasure and love of learning
- Monitor, manage, and support student work in the library. This includes answering student research and technology questions and supervising the reference desk
- Model a love for learning and excellence
- Communicate and partner with students, parents, colleagues, and the local library community
- Review fair use standards and support teachers in accomplishing goals while adhering to copyright restrictions
Spiritual:
- Committed and spiritually mature/maturing follower of Jesus Christ, who engages in work with Valor as ministry
- Committed to and lives and works in accord with the vision and mission, and religious beliefs and practices, of Valor Christian, including those described in its Annual Statement of Commitment and Statement of Beliefs
- Exemplary in conduct both at work and outside of work
- Accepts and abides by the tenets set forth in the Valor Culture Document
Additional Info & Requirements
- Experience working in a school library is preferred
- Experience teaching high school students is preferred
