Our Corporate Information Technology (CIT) Group is currently seeking a Librarian II for the Battelle Library.  This position is located in Columbus, Ohio.  This individual will provide professional reference librarian assistance to Battelle employees as well as proactive marketing and promotion of library resources in alignment with Battelle business objectives.

Primary job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Consulting and advising Librarian I and Library Assistants regarding library strategy, resources, and services
  • Assisting Battelle employees in the use of the reference collection and using the collection to answer questions for research staff
  • Performing on-line literature searches in support of proposal teams and research staff members
  • Interacting with Battelle communications staff to develop compelling messages to convey the utility and value of library resources and services
  • Promoting customer self-service access while concurrently informing researchers about the efficiency of Librarian-assisted research
  • Selecting materials for acquisition or withdrawal
  • Monitoring technological changes and developments in specialized Library services and recommending enhancements of the Library to management
  • Assisting management in the overall evaluation, monitoring, and operation of library services and functions, which may include utilization analysis, materials selection, and budget control/monitoring or expenditure recommendations
  • Overseeing aspects of major library services, e.g. cataloging, website maintenance, or the marketing of services to internal and external customers

 Required Qualifications

  • Masters of Library Science or equivalent from an ALA-accredited program
  • 3-5 years of recent professional experience providing library services in a corporate research-oriented or academic environment
  • Understanding of copyright laws and restrictions governing information use in a non-academic (corporate) environment
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) applications
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in order to meet assigned deadlines
  • Must be a U.S. citizen 

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with providing reference librarian services for various disciplines such as environmental science, toxicology, pharmacology, health analytics, biomedical, engineering, physics, medical devices or chemistry disciplines

  • Experience using search tools such as DIALOG, STN, DTIC or similar on-line information systems
