Job Description
The Head Librarian will supervise and manage the school library media center and provide services and resources that allow students to develop skills in locating, evaluating, synthesizing, using information to solve problems, and creating value-added real-life products. The Head Librarian will serve as teacher, resource expert and advisor to involve the library in the instruction of the school and the development of life-long learners.
The Head Librarian will work with a department team dedicated to providing full service to students and teachers.
Essential Job Functions
- Effectively plan the school library program to meet identified needs
- Provide curriculum group instruction and individual user guidance for students and teachers in location of resources and use of research techniques
- Consult and plan with teachers for the appropriate use and convenient scheduling of resources for classroom instruction and library technology used by students
- Manage the acquisition, processing, organization, distribution, maintenance and inventory of resources
- Compile budget and cost estimates based upon documented program needs
- Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of the library media program and implement changes based on the findings
- Create a library environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students
- Administer discipline in accordance with policies
- Interact with students to promote positive attitudes towards school library
- Create professional development for teaching staff
- Develop and implement copyright and intellectual freedom policies for RJHS
- Supervise library staff
- Serve as Department Chair
