Job Description

Do you want a job that challenges you to use your energy and talents creatively, ethically, and enthusiastically? A job in which you make a meaningful contribution every day in the lives of others? A job that can launch or enhance a great career in librarianship?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, we want YOU! A correctional library may be the perfect place for you!

Colorado Department of Corrections has a vacancy for a Library Technician II at Sterling Correctional Facility. This position works directly with offenders, providing public/school-type (not law) library services to adult male offenders in a state correctional facility where over 90% of the population uses the library. Responsibilities also include supervising, training and evaluating offender library workers and using the ILS to maintain cataloging and circulation data, and for statistical reporting. This is a great place to hone your skills and develop new ones.

Feeling a little hesitant at the thought of working in corrections? Don’t be: you’ll go through a Basic Training Academy and learn the skills you need to be safe! Prior correctional experience is not required

Additional Info & Requirements

In order to be considered for this position, interested candidates must apply online at https://www.colorado.gov/pacific/dhr/open-competitive-job-opportunities.

2 years of course work from an accredited college or university, including 12 semester hours of library science course work, may substitute for the 2 years of general library experience. Must be at least 21 years of age, have NO felony convictions, and successfully complete the DOC Basic Training Academy. Experience working with an offender population within a correctional environment is preferred but not required. Applications from out of state residents are encouraged.
