Job Description

The Information Technology Manager will support the successful analysis, design and implementation of all library systems including networks, servers, telecommunications, email, integrated and automated systems, internet, hardware and desktops. Responsible for meeting the technology needs of the library and patrons. Anticipate and fulfill future needs for software and hardware upgrades including acquisition of new technologies. Work with our ILS consortium. Maintain the wired and wireless networks. Support managers and employees with training, documented procedures and troubleshooting technical problems.

Essential duties include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for the library's network, network servers, integrated library system (ILS), Sierra, through the Marmot consortium. Network administration includes public, private, wireless, and VPN networks, firewall, telecommunications, email, printers/copiers and filtering as well as monitoring equipment for all library systems. Responsible for software licensing.
  • Analyze needs, plan solutions, order and implement required hardware or software. Maintain servers, hubs, routers, wired and wireless networks. Troubleshoot computer and software problems. Ensure technology is available for customer access and employee productivity. Maintain and backup staff computers and files.
  • Be responsive to employees and the public to assist with hardware or software issues.
  • Manage building security system software and oversee vendor negotiations and relationships.
  • Develop and provide training on library products and tools to the staff and public. Advise and consult with library staff to maximize effective use of technology.
  • Stay current on emerging technology trends.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as needed. Ideally would include some building responsibilities.

Additional Info & Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of library technology, computer hardware and software, technology operations, network protocols and practices for public interfacing systems.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products.
  • Excellent oral and written communication.
  • Ability to clearly and courteously communicate library policies to patrons and staff as necessary.
  • Knowledge of current library technologies and ability to adapt to changing technologies and procedures to accommodate and facilitate evolving library and customer needs.
  • Experience with an Integrated Library System, such as Sierra, knowledge of library databases and online catalogs, WordPress websites is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to think analytically, exercise initiative, and act in the best interest of the library.
  • Must be a team player and be able to work with all different kinds of people.

The job requires lifting of light and moderately heavy items, such as equipment, boxes (up to 30 pounds). Requires periods of walking on a routine basis, and/or standing for long periods of time and/or frequently requires stooping and bending. Required to use motor coordination with finger dexterity (with keyboard, installing technical equipment), eye-hand coordination, data entry and computer use for accessing information.

Rampart Library District serves the communities of the RE-2 School District in Teller County, specifically Woodland Park, Divide, Florissant as well as unincorporated areas, a population of about 18,000. Patrons come from the rest of Teller County and bordering areas in Park, Douglas and El Paso counties. Summer residents from out of state come to enjoy the scenic beauty and active lifestyle of a community nestled into Pikes Peak. The main library is in Woodland Park and the branch library is in Florissant. We are the center of our communities and our vision is to provide "Something for Everyone".
