Job Description

This position directs the operation of the Circulation unit, splitting the coverage of the hours of operation with other circulation staff; opens and closes the library; trains and supervisesstudent employees, community service workers, and volunteers; oversees the check in/out of materials; processes overdue fines and bills for lost materials; monitors physical status of shelves, oversees shifting of materials as necessary; provides reference assistance on a limited scale; and performs other tasks as necessary to fulfill the mission of the unit.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Two years of general library experience including typing, ordering, preparing, shelving, and maintaining library materials. Some positions may require specific skills and familiarity with library routines and procedures. Part-time work experience will be prorated.

SUBSTITUTION: Two years of course work from an accredited college or university including twelve semester hours of library science course work may substitute for two years of the general library experience. Transcripts of college course work must accompany your application if this substitution is used.

- Ability and willingness to work a varied schedule including evening, weekends, and some holidays.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

- Library circulation experience

- Experience working Innovative Interface’s Millennium or Sierra ILS

- Computer skills including proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite

- Supervisory experience (students, staff, or volunteers)

- Familiarity with library policies and procedures

- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with minimal supervision

- Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills

- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills

- Experience and aptitude in providing exceptional customer service

- Demonstrated ability to provide relevant library services to culturally diverse patrons

The Community

The Colorado Springs campus of the University of Colorado was established in 1965. The student population is approximately 7650. Most students are commuters, but campus housing is available for about 900 students. Doctoral degrees are offered in engineering, geropsychology, educational leadership and nursing practice. The campus also has graduate programs in business, public administration, and a variety of arts and science areas. Colorado Springs, located at the foot of Pikes Peak, has a population of approximately 500,000, with tourism, high technology, manufacturing, sports and the military ranking as the key industries within the community.
