Job Description

We welcome applicants for the Outreach & Services Specialist (Library Technician III) with the Business Library at the University of Colorado Boulder. This position is responsible for coordinating outreach and promotion of the materials and services of the Business Library, works as a member of the Business instruction team and is the person primarily responsible for coordinating instruction outreach to business faculty and providing administrative support for instruction requests, assists Business Library patrons in the use of library materials and databases and answers reference and directional questions, and is the primary backup for many of the library’s critical service operations. What your key responsibilities will be:
The Outreach & Services Specialist (Library Technician III) will be responsible for:

Outreach:
Serves as the primary coordinator and implementer of outreach at the Business Library. This includes planning outreach events, serving as liaison with University Libraries’ marketing and branch outreach staff, and generally working to promote positive relationships with patrons. Ensures signage in the Business Library is kept up to date and that it reflects a consistent, professional appearance. Responsible for the promotion of Business Library services through various mediums and channels. Ensures that all outreach materials and activities present a consistent message and brand.

Reference:
Acts as a resource person for students, staff, faculty, and public patrons by answering reference and directional questions and by demonstrating the use of various library resource materials and databases. Has scheduled reference hours and staffs the circulation desk during busy periods or when otherwise necessary.

Instruction Support:
Serves as a member of the Business Library Instruction Team. This position processes incoming requests for instruction, communicates with the requesting professor, and coordinates the assignment of an instructor. Maintains the instruction calendar for the Business Library. Develops outreach to professors to expand the instruction activities of the Business Library.

Library Support:
This position acts as a backup to all of the library’s critical functions. This means serving as a backup for circulation and student payroll in the absence of the Operations Manager. Will handle minor equipment problems and report larger problems to the appropriate person and/or department. This position will serve as the backup for processing reserve materials in the absence of the Collections Specialist. This position will be responsible for ordering supplies for the Business Library.

Professional Development:
Stay current with library science practice and trends by reading professional publications and other information outlets such as listservs, by attending instruction sessions and relevant talks, and by consulting with other department members and members of the larger business library community. Attend workshops and continuing education opportunities that relate to Libraries resources. Develop skills in using indexes and other discovery tools in the social sciences.

Special Projects:
Responsible for conceiving, determining the process for, and evaluating the outcome of special projects to promote the Business Library. Supports departmental goals and assists business librarians and staff in other projects.

Minimum Qualifications

Must be a current Colorado resident in order to apply.
• Four years of general library experience involving typing, ordering, preparing, shelving, and maintaining library materials including two years of technical library experience involving cataloging/classifying, providing reference and patron services, and creating/revising procedures.
• Substitution: Two years of course work from an accredited college or university including twelve semester hours of library science course work may substitute for two years of the general library experience.
