Job Description

The Music Library at CU Boulder is hiring for a Library Technician II to help with music copy cataloging, preservation of materials, provide reference services, lead students, manage music serials, and assist with acquisitions and gifts. The individual in this position is expected to stay informed about current library practices and trends.

What your key responsibilities will be:
The Library Technician II:
• Provides timely access to Music Library materials in multiple formats by cataloging, classifying, and preparing these materials for use.
• Assists with the acquisition of new materials and the processing of gift-in-kind donations.
• Provides reference services at the front desk and via IM and email and instructs users in the use of the Music Library, its tools, and resources.
• Supervises student assistants and volunteer workers.

Minimum Qualifications

Must be a current Colorado resident in order to apply.
• Two years of general library experience including data input, ordering, preparing, shelving, and maintaining library materials. Some positions may require specific skills and familiarity with library routines and procedures.
SUBSITUTION: Two years of course work from an accredited college or university including twelve semester hours of library science course work may substitute for two years of the general library experience.

Desired Qualifications

• Ability to read music
• General familiarity with classical and jazz music, including recognition of important composers and knowledge of basic musical forms and terms.
• Experience with technical services and/or cataloging procedures.
• More than two years of experience in a library, preferably in a music library
• Experience using an integrated library system such as Sierra

Preferred qualifications may be used to further reduce the pool of applicants to those who are most highly qualified.
