Job Description
The University of Colorado Boulder Libraries invites innovative and enthusiastic service-oriented professionals to apply for the position of Government Information Librarian. This is a tenure-stream faculty position reporting to the head of Government Information in the University Libraries. The Government Information unit serves students, faculty, and staff on a research intensive campus and also provides services to libraries and users throughout the state in its role as regional depository for Colorado in the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP). The library holds one of the most extensive government publications collections in the western United States, including publications from Colorado and other states, the United States, United Nations, European Union, international organizations, and other countries. The unit is part of the Social Sciences Department in the library system.
The Government Information Librarian provides reference, consultation, instruction, and outreach for the campus and state on government information at all levels. The librarian in this position is also responsible for keeping abreast of changes in government information, particularly with respect to data. The librarian in this position has an advisory role in collection development and builds and maintains strong relationships with faculty, staff, and students in one or more academic social sciences departments. Significant responsibilities of this position includes research and service in keeping with the tenure standards of the University of Colorado Boulder.
Appointment and Salary:
The successful candidate will be appointed as a full-time (12 month), tenure-stream faculty member. Minimum starting salary is $50,000. Depending upon professional experience and demonstrated accomplishments in scholarly activity, creative work, and service, appointment may be at the level of senior instructor or assistant professor. The salary is competitive and benefits include 22 working days vacation; 10 paid holidays; liberal sick leave; University group health care plan; group life insurance; TIAA/CREF administered retirement/annuity; and support for scholarly/professional activities. Tenured faculty members are eligible for sabbatical leave.

- Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited institution or equivalent
- Professional experience in an academic or research library
- Experience or coursework in government information
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively

- Demonstrated ability to cultivate and advocate for an environment of diversity and inclusion
- Potential for research, scholarly work, and/or professional achievement
- Creative ideas about services in the context of government information
Desirable Qualifications
Evidence of any of the following will enhance a candidacy:
- Experience providing reference or instruction in an academic or research library setting
- Demonstrated experience with outreach and advocacy for a government information collection and/or services
- Demonstrated experience with government-produced data
- Demonstrated experience with web-authoring and/or content management tools such as LibGuides, Drupal, etc.
- Record of research or professional service at the national level
