Jefferson County Public Library has an opportunity for a Part Time Patron Experience Associate at our Standley Lake Library. As a member of the Standley Lake Library staff, you will be working at one of our largest libraries. This library services north Arvada and surrounding communities. This library serves a diverse population. Your role will be more specific to providing information to patrons in person, by phone or by mail/email. Your role of a support staff person will involve performing research activities for patrons, advising patrons on materials and locating those materials for patrons. 

General responsibilities for these positions include: · Providing information to patrons in person, by phone, mail and via electronic means. · Performs simple to moderately complex research activities; advises patrons on appropriate materials; locates materials through the use of manual and electronic databases in JCPL, other library systems, or other sources. · Refers patrons to community resources and other appropriate resources for further information as necessary; and advises about on-line searching. · Advises and instructs library patrons in using equipment necessary to access library resources. · May present programming training or classes to the public; this positon will be required to do Storytimes both on or off site. 

May specialize in services to specific market segments (Children, Adults, and Seniors).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Employee will provide information, referral, and reader’s advisory assistance to patrons in person, by phone, mail and via electronic means. Will perform simple to moderately complex research activities; advises patrons on appropriate materials; locates materials through the use of manual and electronic databases in JCPL, other library systems, or other sources. Refers patrons to community resources and other appropriate resources for further information as necessary; and advises about on-line searching. May create content for the web or social media. Employee will address and resolve complaints from patrons or will forward to appropriate staff as necessary. Promotes and presents programs, classes, workshops both in the library and off site. Promotes programs to target audiences. Conducts library tours and community outreach. Provides library instruction and patron education to the public, individually and in groups. Plans and provides story time for our young patrons on a rotating schedule. Suggests program needs. Under supervision, assists in the development and maintenance of instructional tools, databases and reader’s advisory materials. Routinely provides direct customer service. Assists with evaluating and maintaining the existing collection through recommending and weeding of materials.

Additional Info & Requirements

Bachelor's degree or an equivalent of education and experience on a year for year basis. Experience in computer usage is required. Prefer someone with public library experience. Some direct customer service experience is required.


Position must comply with laws governing patron privacy and confidentiality under CRS24-90-119, and the Code of Ethics of the American Library Association, as well as ADA governing public access to space and technology.

Spanish fluency (speaking, reading and writing) is preferred but IS NOT required for this position.


Must be able to work some evenings, weekends and minor holidays.
