What You'd Do:
Work at the Central Library in Reference Services to create positive experiences for library customers by performing professional library work including reference service, reader and media advisory, and collection maintenance. Staff busy reference service points, serving a diverse clientele of all ages. Promote community outreach and programming. Communicate effectively about issues and initiatives with customers, coworkers, and administration.
You Have:
Knowledge of providing library services to customers with different levels of literacy or technology abilities. Knowledge of print and electronic reference tools and techniques. Skill in interpreting, communicating and presenting information, both orally and in writing. Ability to self-motivate in constantly learning and sharing about new reference resources. Ability to thrive working in an environment with constant public contact. Ability to provide reference service to people from all backgrounds and age groups in a variety of formats (in-house, telephone, online chat, and e-mail). Ability to demonstrate positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity and a sense of humor in working with customers, coworkers, and community. Ability to creatively solve problems, negotiate and handle stressful situations in a positive manner. Ability to multi-task and prioritize. Ability to demonstrate innovation and flexibility. Ability to use technology including email, internet, databases, eMedia, social media and other software. Ability to pass a background check after the offer to hire has been made.
A Master's Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited institution or plans to receive one within 90 days of hire.
Interest in providing business reference to help small business entrepreneurs. Interest in Federal documents and government resources. Interest in providing reference and bibliographic instruction to middle school and high school students and adult learners.
Experience in providing high volume, innovative library service (preferred, not required).
Chat reference experience (preferred, not required).
Spanish language fluency (preferred, not required).

The role of Reference Services is to provide professional reference service to the city and region, support staff system-wide in the acquisition of reference skills and further lifelong learning for our customers. Our collection includes 36,000 reference books, 120,000 bound reference periodicals, 1.7 million Federal Documents and a wide range of electronic resources. We are a Federal Selective Depository Library as well as a Patent and Trademark Resource Center. The successful candidate will demonstrate passion and innovation in providing exemplary customer service to the public. Although the full salary range for this position is provided, offers are typically made within the starting salary range and depend on qualifications. The City and County of Denver benefit package will be offered.
The schedule will be determined by the needs of the department and will include every Saturday & Sunday.
