The Community

Known for a mix of a western “Live the Legend” attitude and consciously positioning itself to be a 21st century, sustainable community, Cheyenne – the capital of Wyoming – is the most-populated city (62,448) in the nation’s least-populated state (584,100). Located in Laramie County (just a 90-minute drive from Denver), the high plains and great mountain ranges provide outdoor recreational opportunities.

According to a March 2015 Bankrate ranking, Wyoming is the best state to retire in partly because it has the fifth lowest crime rate in the country and it ranked #1 in best tax situation. Parenting Magazine in 2012 ranked Cheyenne as the fifth best place in the country to raise a family.

Cheyenne is best known by many as the home of the annual Cheyenne Frontier Days rodeo, the largest outdoor rodeo in the world. However, Cheyenne also has thriving arts and recreational opportunities. Arts entertainment is provided by a professional symphony orchestra, active community theater, a civic center that brings in national traveling performances and visual arts venues throughout the community. Cheyenne hosts a nationally recognized botanic garden including a children’s village, and various small museums. Outdoor soccer, baseball and softball fields, an indoor ice rink, and a newly expanded aquatic center add to the various recreational opportunities. Families are also able to enjoy year-round farmers’ markets and other community organized activities. Laramie County Community College provides other venues for cultural, entertainment, and educational pursuits.
