Job Description

  The Clerk is responsible for general day-to-day library operations and services. Including:

Tasks

  • Open and close library and museum as needed
  • Staff circulation desk, answer email and phone calls
  • Greet visitors and maintain visitor statistics log   
  • Instruct and assist patrons in use of library catalog
  • Assist with password resets
  • Check out, check in, renew or reserve materials for member patrons
  • Mail books to patrons as requested and/or supervise other staff
  • Process and follow up overdue notices and lost materials
  • Assist with new book acquisition and shelf preparation
  • Assist with donated book selection, thank you letters and shelf preparation
  • Assist with temporary exhibits and BWAMM as assigned
  • Assist with duplicate book sales in-house, on-line and events
  • Collect library use fees
  • Answer basic reference questions or refer them to Library Staff
  • Scans items upon patron request, or assigns to volunteer staff
  • Monitors library visitors and environment for cleanliness and security
  • Participate in stacks shelving, weeding and shifting projects

Additional Info & Requirements

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: The AAC seeks candidates with drive, enthusiasm, and ambition who are interested in supporting the mission and vision of the American Alpine Club. Required qualifications include:

  • At least one year experience in a library, preferably in a special library in a non-profit and/or research setting.
  • Experience answering reference inquiries
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs and work in dusty conditions
  • Knowledge of Climbing, mountaineering, or the outdoors.
