The Community

The Scholarly Research Impact Liaison is a full-time University staff position associated with the Faculty Information System (FIS) team within the Office of Faculty Affairs, that is responsible for providing support to the campus for initiatives related to the collection, reporting, analysis, interpretation and use of scholarly information with a particular focus on publication data and associated research metrics used to measure scholarly impact.

The Faculty Information System (FIS), developed by the Office of Faculty Affairs, is the system of record used at the University of Colorado Boulder since 1994 to track faculty information including appointments, tenure review, sabbatical eligibility, faculty professional and outreach activities, research interests, and other business-critical faculty data including publication data and ORCID iDs. TheFIS team is an innovative, energetic team providing emerging technologies to the Boulder campus to highlight the dynamic world of scholarly research.

For the last two years, the campus has subscribed to Symplectic Elements for automated feeds of publication data and will open the application to the campus for the first phase of direct user access in Fall, 2015. The initial phase will allow voluntary use by academic units. Required reporting will begin the following year. Many academic units are eagerly awaiting access to publication data for their scholars for many internal purposes and have claimed ORCID iDs after the FISteam recently registered the faculty using the ORCID API for members. Further exploration is planned to identify how the campus wants to use ORCID in the future to facilitate scholarly data use.
