Job Description

Madison Public Library seeks a Community Partnership Librarian at the Meadowridge Library who will provide leadership and coordination in this neighborhood library operation.  The work will involve the growth and development of significant external relationships, to include neighborhood groups and outreach to the underserved or unserved. The position is also responsible for building and maintaining a collaborative relationship with the Meadowood Neighborhood Center.  This collaboration will include joint programming with an emphasis on programming focusing on using the shared kitchen.  Work is performed under the general supervision of a Librarian 3 or Library Supervisor. This series is structured to provide advancement from Librarian 1 to Librarian 2 (consistent with City policy).

  • Grow and develop significant external relationships, to include neighborhood groups and outreach to the underserved or unserved.
  • Build and maintain a collaborative relationship with the Meadowood Neighborhood Center.
  • Participate in joint programming efforts focusing on the shared kitchen, which may include nutritional snack preparation for middle-school students, cookbook author visits and demonstrations, small community meals, and classes taught by staff and outside cooks, chefs and nutritionists.
  • Provide direct services to customers at an all-ages Ask Desk.  Select, craft and execute a diverse programming repertoire.
  • Coordinate paraprofessional, clerical and hourly staff and volunteers.  Prioritize and monitor staff work activities.  Hire pages, clerks and library assistants.
  • Perform related work as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Thorough knowledge of library science theories, principles, practices, and terminology applicable to a public library and community engagement. Working knowledge of automated and manual library systems. Working knowledge of professional library reference and collection development strategies and resources. Working knowledge of and ability to use computer software applicable to the duties of the position. Knowledge of project management principles and practices.  Knowledge of cultural and economic issues involved in serving traditionally underserved populations.  Ability to provide professional expertise in the development, promotion and implementation of library programs and services. Ability to model exceptional customer service skills, including exhibiting respect and sensitivity to a diverse clientele. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships. The Community

Madison Public Library (MPL) is a dynamic organization that actively embraces the changing role of libraries.
