Job Description

The Pueblo City-County Library District is seeking a Digitization Intern

The work associated with this specialized internship will focus on the digitization of documents for the purposes of public accessibility and information preservation.   This work positively impacts library visits, program attendance and digital use.

Who Will The Digitization Intern Work With?

The Digitization Intern reports to the Manager of Special Collections and Museum Services.  This internship works as a flexible team member of the department, representing the Library as a courteous professional.  Provides excellent customer service demonstrating the ability to communicate effectively with people regardless of age, race, sexual orientation, ability level or background.

What Are the Responsibilities of the Digitization Intern?

Converts archival materials to digital format using a high-resolution scanner.

Provides expertise in handling fragile and rare archival materials.  Prepares materials within set standards for scanning.  Records and maintains technical, item, and structural metadata. 

Uploads metadata and scanned images into ContentDM.

Conducts quality control checks as needed on scanned images, transcriptions, and metadata.

Creates limited amounts of transcriptions and metadata for historical collections as needed.

Maintains archival storage of materials and shelving of archival and genealogical material.

Performs collection research and document delivery/obituary research as needed.

Supports team efforts to maintain a safe and secure environment for customers and staff by maintaining awareness of surroundings and working in accordance with safety policies and procedures.

Participates in regularly scheduled department meetings.

Reads daily organizational communications from intranet, e-mail, newsletters and print announcements.  Stays current on all library services, programs and events throughout the district. Regularly accesses electronic time keeping, payroll and personnel employee access systems.

What Are The Internship Dates?

 The internship will be available for Fall 2015; 24 hours per week.  Schedule can be flexible around a student’s schedule but a minimum of four (4) hours per shift is required.  Start and end dates are approximately Sept 1, 2015 – Nov 20, 2015.

Skills and Abilities:   Demonstrated proficiency in the Microsoft Office software.  Experience with PhotoShop or other picture editing software is preferred.  The applicant will have experience with digital scanners and digital cameras; knowledge of Dublin Core metadata schema; experience with ContentDM Software; possess the ability to work independently, a keen attention to detail, and the fine manual dexterity required to perform effective cropping; research skills and strong written and verbal communication skills are required.

Physical Requirements:  Must be able to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds and push /pull a fully loaded book cart weighing up to 200 pounds.
