Job Description

Madison Public Library seeks two Community Engagement Librarians at the Central Library who will be part of a team developing a platform and service models focused on lifelong learning, cultivating relationships between the Library and Madison's learning community in order to foster opportunities to learn, share and create.  This position will facilitate connections between learners and instructors from a variety of environments and organizations to build inclusive communities focused on participatory learning.    This position will ensure equitable provision of learning resources and opportunities, and will lead librarians and other staff in developing culturally competent models for learning services.  Work is performed under the general supervision of a Library Supervisor. This series is structured to provide advancement from Librarian 1 to Librarian 2 (consistent with City policy).

  • Develop a platform and service models focused on lifelong learning
  • Facilitate connections between learners and instructors from a variety of environments and organizations to build inclusive communities
  • Ensure equitable provision of learning resources and opportunities
  • Lead staff in developing culturally competent models for learning services
  • Plan and deliver library programs and services to a broad range of community members, both within and outside the library.
  • Provide direct services to customers at an all-ages Ask Desk.  Select, craft and execute a diverse programming repertoire.
  • Coordinate paraprofessional, clerical and hourly staff and volunteers.  Prioritize and monitor staff work activities.  Hire pages, clerks and library assistants.
  • Perform related work as assigned.
