Job Description
Under the direct supervision of the Library Board of Trustees and in compliance with Montana Public Library Standards, the Library Director is responsible for the development, administration, and evaluation of the Library’s program of services, including the branch libraries. Works collaboratively with the Board of Trustees and the Library staff and volunteers to develop and evaluate Library needs and services in determining the Library’s Long Range Plan. Responsible for budgeting, financial administration, personnel administration, collection management, facilities management, technology systems management, programs, outreach, marketing and community relations.

Sparkling at the end of Last Chance Gulch, the Lewis & Clark Library is a hub of cultural, recreational and educational activity in Helena, the capital city of Montana. Remodeled in 2004, the building is full of light and staffed by an amazing team of caring, passionate, forward-thinking professionals who are really smart and slightly obsessive about the role of Library in our community and in the world. Lewis & Clark Library passed a permanent continuing mill levy in June 2008 and is well supported by the community. The Library was recently awarded the 2014 Will Eisner Graphic Novel Innovation Grant for Libraries and has received eight annual NEA The Big Read Grants in a row. Helena is located centrally with access to fabulous state parks, hiking, camping, and breathtaking scenery just minutes away. Also known as one of the Best Little Art Towns in the west, Helena is home to many art galleries and the world famous Archie Bray Foundation for the Ceramic Arts.
