Job Description

The University Libraries at CU Boulder is looking for a library professional to join their team as the E-Resources Access Manager. This position contributes to meeting the Metadata Services Department’s and the Serials Acquisitions and Access Unit’s goals by responding flexibly and imaginatively to evolving demands placed on the Department. The key responsibilities include facilitating access to electronic library resources available to the University community, troubleshooting e-resource access issues, managing the Libraries OpenURL link resolver, preparing reports and gathering statistics, and developing and documenting procedures.

A major portion of the work performed is analytic and evaluative in nature. The position requires an understanding of knowledgebase construction and management; an understanding of the use of resource, license, contact, bibliographic, holdings, and item records; and an understanding of how the above mentioned records and knowledgebase interact with the Libraries link resolver, proxy server, catalog, and discovery layer to affect users’ experiences with library resources.

What your key responsibilities will be: 
1. Maintains libraries discovery and access systems – 40%
• Maintains libraries link resolver
• Manages the Libraries knowledgebase (360 Core)
• Provides maintenance of the Libraries discovery layer
• Provides maintenance of Libraries proxy tool
• Innovates and designs procedures to improve workflows.
• Independently consults with Libraries vendors to improve systems and troubleshoot problems.

2. Electronic Resource Management and Support – 40%
• Maintain electronic resources in the Libraries ILS, Sierra.
• Creates and enhances resource records.
• Uses specialized knowledge to inform others in the Libraries of e-resource issues and to improve management of e-resources.
• Uses knowledge of e-resource management to independently troubleshoot problems with the knowledgebase, URLs, data accuracy and quality, catalog records, and/or access issues
• Provides support for the collection and analysis of relevant e-resource metrics
• Provides support for record batch loading and holdings maintenance (OCLCRAPID ILL, etc.)

3. Professional Development and Service – 10%
• Serves on library-wide committees, working groups, and other groups as assigned.
• Keeps abreast of developments in technologies, cataloging standards, and best practices.
• Introduces new workflows as appropriate.
• Recommends changes to the E-Resource Librarian, the Serials Cataloging Manager, and the Department Director, as appropriate, for discussion and possible implementation.

4. Assists with the management of student workers and contributes to other departmental activities as assigned. – 10%

Minimum Qualifications

What we require:
• A minimum of two years of library work experience.
• Understanding of MARC schema.
• Demonstrated skill with or knowledge of library applications and procedures for electronic resource management, OpenURL link resolvers, discovery layers, and authentication.

Desired Qualifications

What we’d like you to have:
• Experience maintaining an OpenURL link resolver. Experience working in the administrative portion of publisher’s databases to register campus IP addresses and report access problems.
• Experience in any of the following: providing access to electronic resources and serials including advanced knowledge of cataloging and metadata standards, acquisitions procedures, electronic resource management systems, knowledgebase management, and data transfer.
• Work experience at an academic or research library.
• Experience with the loading of MARC records for collections of e-books, e-journals, or similar materials. Knowledge of XML, regular expressions, or cataloging standards.
• Experience working with SUSHICOUNTERSQL, or SSO technologies.
• Experience working with ProQuest Workflow Solutions 360 tools, Innovative Interfaces’s Sierra, OCLC Worldcat, OCLC Worldshare, and/or MarcEdit.

Preferred qualifications may be used to further reduce the pool of applicants to those who are most highly qualified.

The Metadata Services Department exists to support the University Libraries mission by providing thorough and timely intellectual access to information resources. The provision of access is achieved in collaboration with clients and the wider library community and is designed to promote client self-sufficiency in finding, identifying, selecting, and obtaining resources.

The Serials Acquisitions and Access Unit facilitates access to electronic resources and serials. This unit provides ongoing support for all phases of the e-resource lifecycle, including acquisition, implementation, administration, and support. The Unit’s duties include acquisitions, cataloging, managing bibliographic and holdings records, loading and exporting records, building and maintaining knowledgebases, maintaining an electronic resource management system, maintaining the Libraries OpenURL link resolver and proxy server, and contributing to the maintenance of the Libraries’ discovery tool.
