Jefferson County Public Library is looking for a Public Services Manager who believes in the values of innovation, accountability and excellence – A leader who is passionate about providing public library service that builds an educated and vibrant community. It also means being up-to-date on current trends in the profession and being an advocate for libraries and for a new kind of patron experience. Under the direction of the Director of Public Services, a Public Services Manager at JCPL will not only manage the beautiful Arvada Library but will also manage system-wide services for Library Programming and Patron Education. This Manager will be a leader in achieving Library objectives by planning, implementing, and leveraging system resources to their fullest potential. A public services manager is both a coach and role model for staff creating an environment that reflects JCPL’s values of serving with care, welcoming all, meeting people where they are, giving them full attention, and exceeding their expectations.

This position reports to the Director of Public Services. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Recruits, assesses, hires, trains, supervises and evaluates staff in the Arvada Library, Programming and Patron Education.
  • Designs and implements new efficiencies and experiments with new ways to accomplish work in public libraries, particularly in the areas of system-wide Programming and Patron Education.
  • Manages the quality and quantity of Programming and Patron Education services; monitors trends; resolves problems; works with outsourcing vendors.
  • Uses established industry benchmarks to determine gaps in service provision and quality at the Arvada Library and in Programming and Patron Education system-wide.
  • Communicates expectations to staff and colleagues about library service at the Arvada Library and trends in areas of Programming and Patron Education.
  • Develops metrics, performance measurement and goal setting at the Arvada Library, Programming and Patron Education.
  • Creates a flexible environment for implementing new library services and trends. Leads tactical plan initiatives through project management.
  • Communicates expectations and collaborates with others in cross-functional teams to accomplish goals and objectives.
  • Serves as a member of the Public Services Management Team to develop overall strategy, tactical objectives, and short and long-term planning for deployment of resources.
  • Directs work groups, monitors assignments and their completion and works with multiple levels of staff, assuring alignment with strategic plan.
  • Works in direct patron contact 4-8 hours per month.
  • Spokesperson responsible for delivery of Library’s message to internal and external customers.
  • Demonstrates advanced skill in using computers and electronic resources.
  • Accountable for budget planning and expenditures.
  • Resolves customer service issues, routinely makes decisions on policy enforcement including dealing with law enforcement and first responders.

Hours may include evenings, weekends and holidays. Staff in this position must comply with laws governing patron privacy and confidentiality under CRS24-90-119 and the Code of Ethics of the American Library Association; as well as the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) governing public access to space and technology.
