Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

As a member of the Education, Research, and Outreach Services Division, the Liaison Librarian is involved and engaged in the entire life-cycle of research, teaching and learning, and outreach processes.  S/he collaborates with and supports faculty in course-specific ways, including leading efforts to align course learning outcomes with the new ACRL framework, providing point-of-need instruction sessions and assignments, creating research guides and/or tutorials, identifying library materials relevant to the course to embed in Blackboard, place on reserve, or include in course packs, and providing consultation to faculty and students in the department.  In addition, the librarian provides a full range of subject specific library services to include collection development, consultation, instruction, reference services, and assessment and proactively engages in scholarship and service.  

In addition, this position, in collaboration with library faculty and in accordance with Library Strategic Plan goals, manages the library’s information literacy instruction program through the development of goals and strategies for program implementation, promotion, and assessment; leads the campus in applying the new ACRL framework; serves as liaison to the General Education Board and the composition program to integrate information literacy instruction for novice students into lower division courses; internally coordinates library instruction including class schedules, instructor assignments, support and faculty training, assessment, and reporting; works with faculty to develop collaborative teaching and learning projects; creates and maintains print and web based instructional materials.

POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


As a member of the Education, Research, and Outreach Division, this position will participate in projects as defined by the team.  The major job responsibilities for this position include the following:

Manage and coordinate the library instruction program, including:

  • develop goals, strategies, and curriculum
  • develop and implement student learning outcomes and appropriate assessment tools to measure student success
  • lead the campus in aligning the new ACRL framework to the curriculum
  • work with library and departmental faculty to develop collaborative teaching and learning projects
  • in collaboration with the Outreach Librarian, educate faculty, staff, and students about the program
  • coordinate the development of LibGuides, tutorials, and other web-based instructional materials
  • oversee daily operations of the library's instruction program, including:
    • contacting academic departments to coordinate library instruction offerings
    • scheduling all library instruction classes
    • assigning library faculty to teach appropriate classes
    • providing support and training for library faculty who teach

Serve as liaison to Composition and General Education programs to integrate information literacy instruction for novice students into selected lower division courses.

  • Collaborate with and support faculty in course-specific ways, including leading efforts to align course learning outcomes with the new ACRL framework
  • Provide point-of-need instruction sessions and assignments
  • Participate in library assessment processes for student learning outcomes
  • Create research guides and/or tutorials
  • Identify library materials relevant to courses to embed in Blackboard, place on reserve, or include in course packs
  • Provide consultation to faculty and students in the department related to research, information literacy, and scholarly communication
  • Manage collection development for assigned subject areas
  • Provide reference services at the Research Help Desk (possibly including some nights or weekends) or via LibAnswers as scheduled

Perform sustained inquiry into one's discipline leading to practical application within the library as well as research resulting in published or presented scholarly output.

Serve the Library, the University, and the Profession through active membership on boards, committees, panels, etc.
