Job Description

Purpose: Jefferson County Public Library (JCPL) strives to be the essential destination for all generations to connect, discover and create. JCPL is looking for individuals with strong customer service skills who are interested in assisting patrons in finding just the right book, answering an unusual research question, or helping them with their information technology woes. 


Patron Experience Associate Substitutes are on-call temporary staff who may work at any of JCPL’s ten locations. Schedules may be arranged in advance or for last minute needs. Patron Experience Associate Substitutes must be willing to work at least two of JCPL’s ten locations

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Employee will provide information, referral, and reader’s advisory assistance to patrons in person, by phone, mail and via electronic means. Will perform simple to moderately complex research activities; advises patrons on appropriate materials; locates materials through the use of manual and electronic databases in JCPL, other library systems, or other sources. Refers patrons to community resources and other appropriate resources for further information as necessary; and advises about on-line searching. Employee will address and resolve complaints from patrons or will forward to appropriate staff as necessary. Promotes programs, classes, workshops in the library.

Employee will provide quality programs including off-site locations. Promotes programs to target audiences. Promotes and presents programs and activities, including seasonal programs and Storytimes for children. Conducts library tours. Provides library instruction and patron education to the public, individually and in groups. Routinely provides direct customer service. Assists with evaluating and maintaining the existing collection through recommending and weeding of materials.

Position must comply with laws governing patron privacy and confidentiality under CRS24-90-119, and the Code of Ethics of the American Library Association, as well as ADA governing public access to space and technology.

Additional Info & Requirements

Must be able to work some evenings, weekends and minor holidays.
