Job Description

This dynamic, enthusiastic, and service-oriented librarian will be an integral member of the newly created Resource Management Department which oversees the acquisition, cataloging, metadata, and access to all of Auraria Library’s purchased content. The Acquisitions Librarian will focus on the development of sustainable acquisitions strategies that keep pace with new forms of scholarly communication while fostering the integrated acquisitions-to-discovery workflow vision of a 21st century Technical Services Department.

While ensuring fiscal accountability for library materials acquisitions and expenditures, the Acquisitions Librarian will manage day-to-day operations, provide internal and external direction on all aspects of the purchasing of learning materials (e.g. print and electronic books, journals, videos, and databases), and define, implement, and evaluate strategic priorities in concert with Auraria Library’s many stakeholders.

This position oversees a team of four employees and directly supervises 2 full time staff. This position reports to the Resource Management, Department Head.

•Leads and supervises a team whose activities span the ordering, renewal, and licensing of physical and electronic library materials.

•Manages and expends acquisitions budget and produces financial reports from the ILS that clearly track monies allocated, encumbered and expended for different types of collections and subject areas.

•Investigates current library trends regarding licenses to continuously improve the Library’s existing licensing workflow.

•Collaborates closely with the Education, Research and Access Division to coordinate allocating funds and the implementation of innovative purchasing models.

•Establishes and maintains effective, productive relationships with vendors and electronic service providers.

•Leads negotiations of large packages and databases in close concert with stakeholders inside and outside the Library.

•Analyzes, maintains, and improves the efficiency of detailed acquisitions infrastructure.

•Ensures the reviewing of current and prospective vendors to assess service and pricing, renegotiating discount/pricing structures with appropriate vendors.

•Ensures monthly reconciliation of all library materials funds.

•Works with other members of Technical Services to establish assessment procedures for electronic resources and oversees this function after implementation. This may include designing and building processes and workflows for systematic, sustainable data collection for eresources and evaluating, recommending, and implementing methodologies to analyze the library’s electronic collections.

•Leads staff through migrations to new software and purchasing processes.

•Remains knowledgeable of current trends in acquisitions and electronic resource management. Seeks opportunities to introduce new methods and technologies to improve service.

•Actively participates in library, campus-wide, and external committees.

•Participates in professional growth and development to enhance skills and knowledge, particularly those related to acquisitions and electronic resources management.

•Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

•Master’s degree in Library or Information Science, or equivalent advanced degree.

•Two years of relevant experience in an academic or research library.

•Two years of supervisory experience.
