Job Description

Salary: $30,500-$36,000 annually, plus benefits

Hours: 40 hours per week; Monday through Friday; one evening per week and occasional weekends

Are some of your favorite people spending their days in middle school or high school? Do your interests include: gaming, tech devices, video gaming and young adult fiction? Would you describe yourself as creative, highly energetic, and an excellent communicator? If so, we’d like to talk to you!

What you will do:

  • Provide excellent customer service and maintain a courteous, positive image of the library when interacting with patrons of all ages and staff.
  • Ability to troubleshoot a variety of technical questions including nternet, Microsoft Office programs, database usage, eReaders and apps.
  • Develop and present unique programs of interest to teens and tweens, including classes, workshops and a teen advisory board.
  • Perform community and school outreach, both in person and via social media.
  • Have knowledge of teen and tween literature and graphic novels, be adept at performing readers’ advisory for teen and tween library patrons, and act as expert for staff in these areas.
  • Create a positive, inviting atmosphere for patrons of all ages, with special emphasis on teens and tweens.
  • Provide access to resources, including physical and digital while performing moderately complex to complex research activities.
  • Promote library services and programs for teens and tweens in area schools and community organizations.

What you have to offer:

  • Passion for working with youth.
  • Experience working with the public.
  • Previous library, bookstore or teaching experience.
  • Prior experience working with teens and tweens.
  • Knowledge of current developments, trends, practices and philosophy in library services, especially teen services.
  • Basic understanding of adolescent development and issues facing teens and tweens.
  • Knowledge of literature and programming.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree

Language Skills:

  • Spanish is not required but is a definite plus.
