Job Description

Do you describe yourself as a data geek? Do you eagerly await new stories from FiveThirtyEight or Pew Research? Do you find yourself explaining the “real story” behind the numbers reported in the media to family and friends? Do you like a combination of collaborative and independent work? If so, we’ve got the job for you!

Library Research Service—a unit of the Colorado State Library—has an opening for a 75%-time, 30 hours per week, Evaluation Analyst who will support the Putting SPELL Into Action grant (SPELL = Supporting Parents in Early Literacy through Libraries; learn more about this exciting grant here). This is a temporary position that will begin in mid-January and end by August 31, 2016.This project is about testing the SPELL blueprint recommendations developed in the original SPELL grant in real-life libraries across Colorado. This person will collaborate with public librarians, community partners, and State Library colleagues to analyze and present research findings from the project, including results from caregiver and partner surveys, public library case studies, and best practices for implementation.

The ideal person for this opening is passionate about research, loves libraries, and is looking for a position that is part job, part discovery, and part learning.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with State Library staff and librarians in the field on the evaluation of and reporting on the Putting SPELL into Action grant.
  • Collect, analyze, and report data from all phases of the evaluation cycle, including training, partnering, and parent evaluation surveys.
  • Create case studies of 8 prototype libraries that describe the application, results, and impact of the SPELL Blueprint, including statistical summaries of input and output data, interviews of 4 to 8 selected library/partner staff, and best practices for implementation.
  • Contribute to SPELL Symposium including conducting an exit survey of participants and reporting results.
  • Produce a final Putting SPELL into Action evaluation report to include input, output, and outcome statistics with appropriate graphs, charts, and explanatory narrative from all phases of the evaluation process. The report will include library case studies and infographics.

  • Position is exempt from overtime and may require work outside of normal office hours.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in library and information science or related field (e.g., education, social sciences), with course work in quantitative and qualitative research methods and statistics
  • Experience analyzing quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Knowledge of principles of research design and post-graduate research experience in library science or related field (e.g., education, social sciences).
  • Demonstrated skills in project management.
  • Strong written communication skills, including ability to narrate complex research findings and explain statistical concepts.
  • Excellent verbal communication.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Ability and willingness to travel.
  • The ability to pass a background check, which includes a motor vehicle records search.

Preferred:

  • At least one year experience working in libraries or education organizations
  • Demonstrated skills in report design and creating infographics.
