Job Description

Are you passionate about all-inclusive libraries? Do you care about helping new immigrants find their place in our society and become good citizens? Do you love to travel, read foreign books and watch foreign movies? Are you a master of multicultural advisory? Then read on! We are looking for an enthusiastic champion for multiculturalism. The successful candidate will be skillful in providing assistance to our multilingual and multicultural populations, well informed about world literature and cinema and eager to share this knowledge with our patrons.

Position: 40 hour, full-time; exempt

Pay Rate: $40,400.00 - $60,640.00

Role: Assists patrons with advanced search and advisory needs and develops multicultural library programs and services.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

70%       PROGRAMS AND SERVICE - Provides library tours and class visits to ESL students and English Conversation Circles; conducts Book-a-Librarian sessions; answers hunt group questions; produces library programs for multicultural patrons, as well as programs promoting multiculturalism, provides advisory services and web content.

15%      LIAISON - Liaisons with multicultural community groups and other community service agencies by meeting with representatives and encouraging community participation in the library in order to promote use of library services.

15%       MENTORING - Develops the knowledge, skill and ability of paraprofessional staff by mentoring them in order expand their ability to service patron requests.

Qualifications:

Two to five years of similar or related experience, required.

MLS or MLIS degree, required. 

Ability to work varying shifts, including evenings and weekends, required.

Advanced technology skills for Windows, Word, Excel, Internet Explorer and Outlook, required.

Intermediate skills in Sierra, preferred.

Ability to be mobile 100% of the time and sit as needed; ability to bend, stoop, reach, and push a loaded wheeled book truck weighing up to 100 pounds, 10% of the time, required.

Fluency in a foreign language, required (Spanish preferred).

Wide erudition and general interest in world literature, cinema and politics.

Experience with developing and conducting instructional programs and services.

Development of multi-cultural programs.

Ability to focus on the customer, show integrity, be inclusive, enjoy learning and have fun.

Ability to exercise confidence and excitement in the vast technological and online resources the Library District has available.

Ability to successfully work with varying demographics, required.

Passionate about the mission of public libraries. Comfortable with the principles of intellectual freedom.

The Community

Established in 1966, the Arapahoe Library District serves more than 200,000 residents living in Arapahoe County. Arapahoe County and other major suburban counties make up the greater metropolitan area surrounding Denver, Colorado. The Arapahoe Library District operates eight branch libraries, including mobile library services, and a library at the County Detention Center, funded by the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Department. A seven-member Board of Trustees sets the library budget and determines policy.
