Salary: $54,806.00 - $68,508.00 Annually

The full salary range for this position is stated above. Starting wages are negotiable and dependent on the qualifications and experience of each individual candidate. The City of Westminster offers a bonus of up to $1,500 per year depending on the employee's fluency in Spanish, Hmong, and/or Laotian.
Reporting to the Youth Services Coordinator, the Youth Services Librarian is responsible for the system-wide support of the Library's strategic initiatives of providing early literacy experiences, connecting with parents and caregivers, providing outreach services, and developing school-age readers and life-long learners. The Youth Services Librarian assumes responsibility for the effective execution of programs and services in support of early literacy and childhood literacy, within the Library's broader program of services both in-house and offsite. Proactively assesses the needs of families in the service area through direct contact or through interaction with schools and community agencies and recommends services and resources the library should provide to address those needs. Serves as contact at busy reference desk for youth and family. May be required to work some evenings and weekends.
This position will be filled with either one individual working full-time, 40 hours per week, or by two (2) part-time individuals, each working 20 hours per week.
Education, Experience, Skills, Formal Training, Licenses, and Certifications
Required:
- Graduation from an accredited, four-year college
- Master's Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program or related field
- Previous experience in a professional-level position with children's services
- Demonstrated commitment and passion for early and community literacy
- A valid driver's license and maintain a safe driving record
Preferred:
- Minimum two years customer service experience in a library or school setting
- Completion of courses at the Master's level emphasizing services to children and/or young adults
- Broad knowledge of early childhood literacy: child learning theories and philosophies
- Reference and readers' advisory experience in a public library setting
- Knowledge of and/or experience with electronic information and educational resources for youth
- Spanish language skills
Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, which would provide the required knowledge and skills, may be considered.
