Summary of Job Duties
The City of Aurora is seeking a Temporary Cataloging Coordinator to fill a temporary, part-time (15-20 hours per week) position in the Technical Services team at the Aurora Public Library. The Cataloging Coordinator will assist with processing incoming materials and maintaining the catalog. This is a great opportunity to gain or expand skills working with MARC records and RDA as well as gain experience in a technical services department. Most time will be spent processing new items and maintaining item and bibliographic records, but other activities could include:
- Original cataloging
- Catalog consistency projects
- Material repair
- Troubleshooting issues with the ILS (Sierra) or discovery layer
- Running reports for circulation and item usage
- Invoice reconciliation
- Batch updating records
- Ordering cataloging supplies
- Importing new item and bibliographic records to the ILS (Sierra)
- Importing e-content records in the discovery layer
- Resolving catalog or collection related questions for library staff and customers.
We wear a lot of hats in this department which makes this role uniquely suited to someone who is a self-starter and wants to learn the ins and outs of library systems activities. The initial duration of the position is 3-6 months with the possibility of extension.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) from an ALA accredited program or currently enrolled in a MLIS program
- Knowledge of Dewey Decimal Classification system and cataloging standards
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- Collaborative attitude and desire to work hard in a team setting
- Interest in technology and library systems
- Intermediate comfort with Excel and other Microsoft Office applications
- Great communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- 1-2 years of cataloging experience
- Familiarity with editing MARC records using RDA
- Familiarity with FRBR or other hierarchical relationship models
- Experience using Sierra and SkyRiver or other Innovative Interfaces, Inc. products
- Understanding of relational databases and the ability to create basic queries
Compensation
$22.00 per hour
Schedule
15-20 hours per week during the hours of Monday-Friday 8:00AM -5:00PM
