Job Description

Working in a team mode with the other Public Services Librarians, provides complete reference services. Provides information in response to ready, one-step requests by utilizing a wide range of library tools. Locates answers to involved and difficult reference queries, many obscure or in various languages. Educates patrons in the use of reference tools specific to their needs, in print format or online. Provides online literature searches using commercial systems such as Web of Science and IEEE Explore. Assists and instructs users of the use of the Library resources and systems including the Library website, electronic resources, and the online public access catalog. Obtains knowledge of the scientific and research activities of the Boulder Labs agencies by attending local technical seminars and interacting with the scientific staff on a frequent basis. Participates in Library seminars by preparing and presenting instructional material on database searching, interlibrary loan, and other topics of interest. May be required to staff the Branch library at least one day a week on a regular basis. Provides professional level support in the interlibrary loan function. Oversees all interlibrary loan functions, including borrowing, lending, verification. Provides instruction, training , and guidance in these areas to other staff as required, ensuring compliance with all applicable procedures, protocols and copyright regulations. Performs verification of citations for materials not held in the library's collections, as requested by patrons. Serves as operational contact for the ILLiad Interlibrary Loan system. Participates in collection development activities.

NOAA is a federal agency focused on the condition of the oceans and the atmosphere. NOAA supplies information to its customers that pertains to the state of the oceans and the atmosphere. NOAA also is the steward of national coastal and marine environments. This position is located in the Information Resources Division (IRD), Information Systems Management Office, Office of the Chief Information Officer, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, U.S. Department of Commerce (DoC). The Division provides a fully integrated program of library and information support services to Department agency components located in Boulder. Serviced Department organizations include portions of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (including the Earth Systems Research Laboratory, the National Geophysical Data Center, Corporate Finance and Administrative Offices, and the National Weather Service Space Environment Center); the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST); and the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA).
