Job Description

Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck, LLP, an AmLaw 200 Law Firm with 12 offices and 250+ attorneys, seeks a Reference Librarian/Research Analyst to join our Library research team, ideally to be based out of our Las Vegas Office. We would also consider a strong candidate who is based out of our Denver office or another Brownstein office location, with a possible option for a fully remote or hybrid work model. This position works with other members of the Library Services Department to meet the information needs of attorneys and staff in all office locations, and reports to the Library Director.

The Reference Librarian/Research Analyst:

  • Performs legal, general and business research for attorneys, paralegals and support staff, using a variety of electronic and print resources. This can include both quick and in-depth complex case, statute, news, public records and company research.
  • Analyzes legal and non-legal resources and communicates findings in a clear, concise manner.
  • Identifies electronic resources on Firm’s intranet and those in the print collection and develops research strategies for attorneys and other staff members.
  • Provides assistance to users of both physical and electronic library resources.
  • Assists with collection development by evaluating new digital resources and assessing attorney information needs and usage patterns.
  • Conducts library orientations and assists in research training programs.
  • Assists with development of documentation and training materials for library research and electronic resource instruction programs.
  • Routinely bills time for reference/research.
  • Assists in content upkeep for the library’s intranet page.
  • Participates in projects that increase the value of our research and information services to the Firm.
  • Stays current with new and developing trends in research, technology and competitive intelligence.
  • Performs EOS copy cataloging and maintains online cataloging.
  • Travel to other offices as needed.

The successful candidate will possess the following:

  • Master’s degree in library or information science. Preference of a minimum of 2 years related experience in a private law firm setting.
  • Knowledge of legal materials and law firm experience preferred. Business and competitive intelligence research experience a plus.
  • Demonstrate strong research skills and a deep understanding of research strategies.
  • Competency with online research services such as Lexis, Westlaw, Practical Law, Bloomberg Law, Cheetah, Pacer, Courtlink, Law360 and Hein Online.
  • Responsive, service-oriented and able to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Ability to prioritize requests with a high level of competency, accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking skills to facilitate presentations.
  • Ability to think critically, solve complex problems and use discretion in handling confidential matters.

Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck offers a benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, 401k + match, profit sharing, and vacation/sick/personal time off. We are offering a range of salary for this role from $66,000 to $76,000 annually.
