Job Description

Performs responsible administrative, public service and technical tasks in support of the Longmont Public Library computer services and functions. PRINCIPAL DUTIES: Provide computer technical support to staff. Assist in the repair, maintenance, and installation of library personal computer hardware, software and peripheral equipment including routine maintenance and troubleshooting of the Library’s personal computer networks, Internet, and SirsiDynix computer system. Oversee personal computer security system. Maintain documentation related to personal computer hardware and software. Develop technical specifications and recommend personal computer related purchases. Maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, and the public. Collaborate with other Library staff to provide effective customer service. Supervise employees and volunteers in the Computer Lab including assisting in the selection process, preparing work schedules, designing and conducting training, problem resolution, ensuring staff coverage, and performance evaluation. Provide direct assistance to customers in the Computer Lab. Assist and interview Library patrons by telephone or in person to determine needs and locate desired information or library materials using the computerized databases, library materials, other reference tools, or contacts with other libraries. Assist Library patrons (children, teens, or adults) with personal computers, providing instruction in using reference sources, word processing, and the Internet and assisting with problems. Attend weekly Library management and monthly staff meetings as directed. Compile monthly and yearly statistical reports. Recommend and assist in updating procedural and training manuals in areas of assignment.
