Jackson County Library Services (JCLS) serves the 220,000 residents of Jackson County with 15 branch libraries. The mission of the Jackson County Library District is to connect everyone to information, ideas, and each other. We provide a wide range of children’s, teen, and adult physical and electronic resources and collections as well as outreach services, including booktalks for elementary and middle school students, services for homebound patrons, and outreach to childcare centers. Our ever-changing calendar of programs and events is diverse, including musical performances, lectures, art exhibits, classes, book groups, storytimes, and more.

THE POSITION

The IT Technician provides on-site and remote support for various technology solutions throughout the Library District. The IT Technician is responsible for the proper utilization of a wide assortment of software and hardware, and knowledge resources including the installation, configuration, troubleshooting, repair, documentation, and one-on-one customer support for all technology implemented throughout the District. Through excellent customer service to library staff, the IT Technician contributes to the enrichment of Jackson County library patrons’ experience.


 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Installs, maintains, troubleshoots, repairs and replaces hardware and software in a predominantly Microsoft and Dell/EMC environment.

• Monitors and manages incoming tickets for service and support via email, telephone and software.  Responding and document all correspondence in a timely and effective manner.

• Maintains networked copiers, printers and other multi-function imaging devices.

• Prepares, images and deploys computers for staff and patron use.

• Educate and train staff on best practices for general computer usage, VOIP telephones and software.

• Demonstrates a high level of proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 products.

• Maintains detailed documentation regarding work progress and resolutions.

• Accurately tracks and inventories equipment, consumables and software.

• Maintains storage of replacement equipment, parts and consumable items.

• Disposal of e-waste.

• Provides desktop hardware, software, printing and delivery support.

• Coordinates and schedules regular branch visits for installations, repairs, troubleshooting and site visits for specific equipment vendors.

• Builds and maintains strong partnerships by focusing on collaboration, consultation, problem solving and alignment of strategies and initiatives. Ensures consistent communication and partnership with key stakeholders across the District.

• Cultivates an environment of trust and collaboration with all customers.

• Creates positive experiences for staff by performing job tasks effectively and efficiently.

• Participates in continuing education efforts and professional development.

• Regular attendance.

• Knowledge of remote desktop applications and help desk software.

• Ability to travel to all 15 library locations.

• Proficient with MAC and OS

• Ability to read a variety of correspondence, technical manuals, newsletters and communicate with vendor technical assistance.

• Demonstrates understanding of IP addressing fundamentals at the desktop computer level.

• Demonstrates applied understanding of low and high voltage electrical safety precautions.


 

QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma or GED.

• College coursework related to information systems, computers and technology.

• At least one current industry standard certification, such as any beginner level CompTIA or Microsoft Certification.

• Two years of progressive, on-the-job customer service experience in a technology-based environment.


 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/LICENSES

Criminal background check required.

Valid driver’s license and ability to be covered on the District’s insurance policy.


 

WORKING CONDITIONS

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is continuously required to communicate by talking and listening, use of fingers and hands, repetitive motion and sitting. Frequently required to stand, walk, reach, sit and feel. Occasionally bend, stoop, grasp and rarely to feel, kneel or crawl. The position requires mobility, including the ability to move materials weighing up to 15 pounds on a regular basis such as files, books, office equipment, etc., may infrequently require moving materials weighing up to 25 pounds.


 

Manual dexterity and coordination are required over 75% of the work period while operating equipment such as computer keyboard, calculator, and standard office equipment.

Travel to other district locations for work and/or to workshops/professional meetings/conferences.

This level has a work environment that is well protected, with virtually no hazards or obstacles. There is very little element of personal risk or hazard. Job conditions are stable, usually well managed, and very comfortable. Conditions may consist of the following:

• Reading for comprehension and direction (policies & procedures)

• Speaking to share, respond and maintain relationships or to convey instructions and/or direction

• Considerable cognitive process to make effective decisions for non-routine work

• Various equipment includes computers with a keyboard and mouse, server, routers and other networking equipment, telephone, and other electronic devices to share documents, information and discussion

• Deadlines and changing priorities with multiple demands on time

• Attendance at evening and weekend meetings and/or social/business events

• Available for emergencies and off-schedule contacts

SALARY

This position is placed at range J on the JCLS salary schedule, and has a starting salary range of $20.18 to $21.43 per hour. The full salary range is $20.18 to $25.27 hour or $41,964 to $52,560. Placement on the salary schedule is based upon education and experience.

SELECTION PROCESS
