Job Description

This position will provide reference assistance in the Children's Room using community, manual, and electronic resources, including online searching. Position assists with children's programs and story times and create displays and bulletin boards. In addition, work will involve advising patrons on choice of books and materials appropriate for themselves or for their child, and offering instruction for various reference searches including use of our computer catalog. Bilingual Spanish speakers encouraged to apply.

The Community

The Belmar library serves the central and southern half of Lakewood, which has a population of about 107,000 people who have made this facility one of Jefferson County’s busiest libraries. Bordering the foothills, with numerous parks and open space areas, there is also easy access to downtown Denver from the library. Its patrons range from senior citizens, to business people and families, including a growing number of Spanish-speakers. Belmar has a Spanish language collection for children and adults. It houses the Library Training Center, which offers free hands-on classes on computer and library use to patrons countywide. A spacious meeting room and four study rooms for small groups make Belmar an attractive gathering place and a frequent site for community meetings. Belmar’s staff of 22 provides reference services for children and adults, access to Jefferson County’s extensive Online Library, about 157,000 items on its shelves, free programs, and children’s story times. Readers enjoy comfortable chairs in a quiet area overlooking adjacent Belmar Park as well as access to a coffee cart, which sells hot drinks and snacks. They frequently visit the Friends of the Library Gift and Book Shop in the library to find great bargains.
