Job Description
Role: Selects, acquires and weeds fiction items, such as large print, audio books, downloadable audio books, and new/popular (Xpress) materials. Major Duties and Responsibilities: 50% MATERIALS SELECTION - Selects and orders materials for the collection by identifying the most cost effective vendor, selecting desired materials, and preparing orders for materials to be acquired. 35% COLLECTION ANALYSIS - Identifies appropriate materials for the collection by gaining a full understanding of branch holdings, the unique requirements of particular communities, and developing a profile for orders that will address the needs. 15% WEEDING - Organizes collections by determining the usefulness of materials, making recommendations for their removal from the collection, and mentoring branch employees on on collection maintenance practices, in order to present an organized and updated collection. Expectations: 1. CUSTOMER RELATIONS – Outstanding and personalized customer service. 2. MATERIALS SELECTION - Effective recommendations for vendor and library materials. 3. Technology skills, including intermediate assessment scores for Windows, Word, Excel, Internet Explorer, Outlook, and Millennium preferred. Knowledgeable of materials selection and collection development principles; collection assessment and evaluation techniques; publishing trends; and current recreational and information needs of the public required. Committed to provide outstanding and personalized customer service to patrons, coworkers and customers. Established in 1966, the Arapahoe Library District serves more than 200,000 residents living in Arapahoe County. Arapahoe County and other major suburban counties make up the greater metropolitan area surrounding Denver, Colorado. The Arapahoe Library District operates eight branch libraries, an Outreach Service that provides mobile library services, and a library at the County Detention Center, funded by the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Department.
