The Community

Golden Library serves an eclectic patron mix due to the proximity of the original Coors brewery, Jefferson County’s government complex, numerous museums that reflect the city’s history as Colorado’s original territorial capital, and the nationally known Colorado School of Mines. Students from all over the world come to “Mines,” speaking a variety of languages and bringing a variety of cultures. The Colorado Mountaineering Club has its headquarters just down the street from the library, and a spacious recreation center is a few blocks away. Hang gliders soar in the breeze half a mile to the west in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. Golden’s elementary, middle and high schools are part of the excellent county school system. As a treasured resource in the community, the library has a staff of 17 to serve a population of 22,000 that value preserving its picturesque, small-town ambience and friendliness. Golden Library provides reference services for children and adults, access to Jefferson County’s extensive Online Library, about 82,000 items on its shelves, and numerous free programs for all ages, including story times for children.
